Pneumovax 23 is a vaccine that protects against 23 types of Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria (pneumococcus). It's recommended for certain high-risk individuals, including adults 65 and older, people with chronic health conditions, smokers, and those with weakened immune systems. It's given as an injection.
